recent ponderings

In light of the last batch of images I uploaded, I'd like to extrapolate on my growing fascination with candid photography and particularly that of people I don't know.  As a general rule, I try to photograph anything and everything, and in the past I've taken candid photos of strangers as a way to challenge my ability to make interesting compositions of a moving subject and to photograph without being noticed.  Lately, though, I've been thinking about the idea that people in our culture are taught to be reserved and only show certain aspects of themselves.  So much about being human is seen as disgusting or inappropriate in most contexts, and many people try to appear to fit into social norms, especially when they know they are being photographed.  Because of this, I've been trying to capture those moments when a person doesn't think they're being watched as a way to discover who and how they really are.  I found a notebook the other day that's mostly filled with to do lists and homework, but that includes encouraging messages to its author every few pages.  This, to me, is a prime example of candid photography, even though it obviously takes on a completely different kind of medium.  Anyway, any suggestions for what I could do with this would be much appreciated.
